You might recognize this blonde knockout from her stellar performance in the Ontario Tourism commercial singing ‘There’s No Place Like This.’ Now rising star, country-rock pop singer, Alex J. Robinson is releasing her sophomore album The Getaway (Thorniac Records/MDM) on February 16, 2010. Amazon: http://Bit.ly/ajrama or iTunes: http://bit.ly/getajr
“The Getaway is a new CD about being hopeful, staying positive, becoming more mature and going beyond that songwriter standpoint of romantic relationships”, describes Robinson. One of Robinson’s favourite new tracks is somewhat autobiographical. “‘I Don’t Give Up’ is a simple, soft story of exactly where I am at as a singer, not to mention a timely message given the state of the economy.”
Among the other up-tempo tunes found on The Getaway is ‘Mindemoya,’ a hum-along story that will tap into listeners’ reminiscences of teenage summer fun and first crushes.
The Getaway was produced by her co-writer and musical mentor Tim Thorney, whose production credits include Alanis Morissette, Jimmy Rankin, Brian Byrne, The Ennis Sisters and Chisai Jackson among others. The two met while Alex was in her mid-teens doing voice-over work in the studio. Though Alex’s sole instrument is her voice, it doesn’t stop her from finding the melodies that ring true and she and Tim have honed a great creative chemistry.
“Tim lets me explore different sides of myself,” says Alex, citing the track “Girly Girl,” a sassy little number about asserting one’s independence and being proud of whomever you choose to be regardless of judgment.
Grammy Award winning guitarist Brent Mason also lent his incomparable talents to the record as did CCMA award winning vocalist /arranger Joel Feeney and the inimitable (and hotly sought-after) fiddler/vocalist Ali Raney.

Last year I was nominated for the top new female talent at the CCMA’s so my confidence has really grown.” Country music fans can be sure that The Getaway will make them happy.
