Tin Pan North ~ Toronto meets Nashville

Maddy Rodriguez, one of the youngest Canadian members of NSAI, will be performing at Tin Pan North for the first time this year. Ms Rodriguez began writing at 13, and soon after, decided she wanted to go to Nashville. “It was like this ‘promised land’ that everyone talked about, and if you wanted to have a country or pop music career, it was the place to be.
On my 16th birthday, my mom handed me a big poster and on the front it said, “For her 16th b-day, Maddy goes to…” and when I turned it over, the back said, “NASHVILLE”. The moment I read that word, I cried. I think I was so emotional because I had developed a connection to this wonderful place that all my idols talked about. In February 2009, we flew to Nashville and stayed for 4 days. I was so amazed by all the talent and music spilling out from every corner of that city.
I want to thank NSAI for bringing awareness to Canadian songwriters because we have some of the best in the world. And I’m very grateful that I’ve been asked to be part of the 11th Annual Tin Pan North festival. I look forward to performing my songs, and hope to do it again next year too!
