urArtistnetwork: Let’s get straight to it. March 12th you’ll be part of The Factor Breakthrough Series for Canadian Music Week. How are you getting ready?
Maddy: Well first off I sat down and started thinking about what my set will be. Once I did that (which has taken a long time because we kept switching) I’ve just been rehearsing with the guitar player, Brian, that I’m working with. I’ve had to teach him a couple new songs that we worked on at my house. We went to a rehearsal studio and practiced there a couple times. I also practiced with my backup singer, Stacy. We’re all going to come together a week before and put together percussion which Jeremy is doing with me. He plays the bongos. They’ll be four of us all together playing an acoustic set.
urArtistnetwork: You’ve really been working at your music and music education. Tell me more about your recent trip to Nashville!
Maddy: The publishing company that I’m with sent me out to Nashville to explore, network and co-write with different songwriters. My Dad, producer Greig Nori and Greg Miller; a videographer from Much Music, accompanied me. I was kept very busy on a daily basis. I got to co-write with five different writers including Alissa Moreno, which was really amazing because they’re so good at what they do. I got to perform at the Rutledge, which is this big famous showcase in Nashville. I just had my one guitar. We didn’t have any musicians with us there. The other artists had full bands. It was a little intimidating, but I really enjoyed it. We also did a radio show with Billy Block on the Billy Block Show. They played my song Falling Up (for the first time on the radio) and we did an interview.
urArtistnetwork: Wicked! I read that you’ve in your final year of high school. What are your plans when you graduate? What does the future hold for Maddy Rodriguez?
Maddy: I’m taking a year off next year to work and pursue music. There’s a definitely plan to record more, maybe do an album soon or at least a few singles. I’m excited to just get them out!
