Amos the Transparent Have A Taste for Something New, Yet Familiar

Amos the Transparent are in the studio hard at work on a new record that is more in the style of their first album, “Everything I’ve Forgotten To Forget” according to band member Mark Hyne.

He also describes their new album as “more dynamic than ‘Teeth’ and way more epic.” Finally Mark has assured us that this album will definitely be full-length this time. All of that points to awesome.

With a list of updated tweets from the group, seen on their facebook, it sounds like they are having a great time in the studio, which can only lead to some great recordings! Quote from in the studio: Chris, “if you’re gonna come in here you’re gonna have to take your shirt off“.

Their not as transparent as they may have led you too believe, see them easily on their website to find out more and check out a couple of tour dates: www.AmosTheTransparent.com

Beginning March 1, 2011 Ottawa’s Amos The Transparent will be releasing eight live tracks for free over the course of the next eight weeks on their website http://www.amosthetransparent.com.

While the band records their new album they thought they would give their fans a taste of a few new songs as well as some of their faves recorded live by XM Satellite radio’s “The Verge” as well as “Southern Souls”. The free download album will be known as “Transparencies”.

The group will take a short break from recording to perform at Toronto’s El Mocambo as part of CMW’s “Canadian Music Fest” on Thursday March 10 at 11:30 PM.

[urArtist network @ Canadian Music Week] Interview w/ AMOS THE TRANSPARENT’S Christopher Wilson

See Amos The Transparent at Canadian Music Week

urArtistnetwork: March 10th you’ll be playing in The Factor Breakthrough Series for Canadian Music Week. What have you got rolled up your sleeves?

Christopher: All of our focus for the past few months has been around making a record. We haven’t played a show in 2011 yet so this is very rare for us. Canadian Music Week will be our first 2011 show and we’re hoping to come with a bunch of new material.

urArtistnetwork: Can you briefly describe the music making process? (Since you’re working on it right now)

Christopher: In terms of the music making process, it’s really a collaborative effort. It’s usually Jonathan from the band who comes with a song; usually an acoustic folk song that we then take to turn into something similar or very different. It’s a slow process. It’s fun, its stressful; it’s different than the two years in between. It’s definitely an interesting process to see these songs really come to life and take up all these different shapes and versions really. It’s definitely interesting and definitely challenging.

urArtistnetwork: How would you say your music has evolved since you first began playing music together?

Christopher: Our music evolved as the band has evolved. When we started with Amos The Transparent back in 2006, it was Jon and myself simply taking his songs and turning them into something else. That was the beginning and now it’s become, like I said more of a collaborative effort. It’s a group of five or six of us that really make these songs what they are today and it has become more of a group effort as opposed to two of us sitting together making music. It’s totally taken a different life and it’s definitely for the better. It’s always evolving. Every record seems to be different. Every record goes a new direction for us. Its really cool and I’m really excited about these new ones that we’re working on.

urArtistnetwork: As you’ve been together for quite some time, what has been your biggest challenge as a band? Have you been able to overcome that challenge? If so, how?

Christopher: I think we’ve done a great job of some things, but we’ve also done a bad job getting into certain markets and that’s always the challenge – going and playing to very few people and just being persistent and keeping up the hard work is one of the hardest things. I think we’ve overcome it. We’ve travelled the 401 so many times that now things are starting to turn around for us a little bit and always improving. Playing and getting to know people is one of the challenges any band. You just keep on working hard on it and it really starts to get better.

urArtistnetwork: What advice do you have for people who want to form their own bands?

Christopher: Do it. If you love it, do it. The moments you spend playing songs to people and hearing them come to life is one of the most rewarding things. If you have a true love for it, it feels so right. There are only a few other things that compare to the feeling of playing music – and that’s family & kids. That’s what I would compare to making music. It’s such a good feeling to get on stage and have people react and smile and really embrace what you’re doing on stage. I would encourage anyone and everyone to do it but don’t think anything is going to come easy because there are always going to be challenges. It’s always going to be an uphill battle and there’s going to be so many sacrifices that you’ll have to make. It is definitely worth it.

urArtistnetwork: Absolutely! Amos have certainly come a long way. Any last words?

Christopher: Our record will come out Summer 2011! In terms of Canadian Music Week – come check it out! We’ll be playing a bunch of new stuff. Stay tuned for upcoming shows. There might be some surprises of fun in the next few months coming. Keep your ears to the ground!

Amos The Transparent Rock BIGSOUND then Perform at a Clothing Store in Brisbane, Australia

As part of Canadian Music Week International, Amos The Transparent traveled to Brisbane, Australia to play at the BIGSOUND music conference.

Now in its tenth year, BIGSOUND includes an array of guest speakers, workshops as well as showcases for both local and international acts. Representing only one of the 7 international showcasing acts, Amos The Transparent acquired new fans and impressed the local media.

From Left to Right - Todd Arkell (Cool Planet Entertainment), Chris Wilson, Gary Taylor (VP International CMW,) Dan Hay, Jonathan Chandler, James Nicol

In an interview with Australia’s Rave Magazine, guitarist Dan Hay spoke about playing down under. “Being on the other side of the world and playing shows is pretty exciting for us,” said Hay. “In our live shows it really comes to creating some sort of relationship with our audience and that’s sort of been the best part of playing for this band for me through the last few years, feeling the way that our show is sort of creating an amazing interaction with our audience. It’s a bit of cliché but it’s the give and take of energy … creating that sort of dialogue is important for us.”
