Organ Thieves (Bring Back the Boom Box)

“Forget what you know of Dave “Brownsound” Baksh, the old Sum 41 guitar player, because he has long since moved on to bigger and better things. The Organ Thieves are a force to be reckoned with and through their talent and will power, these guys will rise to the top very soon.” – Diego Silva

No Warning (In Music We Trust)

“No Warning has shed its tough guy shell and sounds a lot like a cross between fellow countrymen Sum 41 and Linkin Park than the ultraviolent and angry band everyone used to love… While the good old NYHC stomp is less apparent than previous offerings, tracks like “Modern Eyes” could still incite a riot” – Mike Sos (In Music We Trust)

The New Cities: U.K. Rising and Juno Countdown

“The New Cities are the kind of band that you can easily visualize grinning down from the covers of your friendly neighborhood rock publications before too long; they’re catchier than the common cold, visually marketable, and very much in tune with the current synthpop/rock crossover explosion.” – Rob S, Rock Pulse

It has been a really exciting year so far for Canadian electro-rock-pop band The New Cities. Signed to Sony Canada and Sony Music Japan, The New Cities are picking up a lot of TV play in the U.K. for “Dead End Countdown,” like The Box, Chartshow TV, Scuzz, NME TV and Kerrang! (where they’ve had a Video of the Week and landed #10). “Dead End Countdown” makes its UK release on April 26.

“We are proud to announce that “Dead End Countdown” is our first official single release in the UK!, says lead vocals, David Brown of The New Cities. “The song will be available to download in a special 4-track bundle on iTunes April 26th.”

**In Canada, The New Cities’ have released a special E.P on iTunes for the new single “Hypertronic Superstar” http://bit.ly/hypbun.

“Of all the bands we’ve seen thus far, this one has the most up-and-coming commercial potential. They’re catchy new wave synth punk with just enough pop. The entire band exuded tremendous energy right from the get-go, which seemed to fill the entire space. What made this band’s energy seem bigger was that they seemed to be having the time of their lives on stage (loved the keyboardist’s acrobatics).”

- Emer Schlosser, Inside E Canada

urArtist network Rocks CMW at Great Hall

On Friday March 12, 2010 urArtist network hosted CMW’s only free entry, all ages / 19+ event at The Great Hall (1087 Queen St. West). For one night, with two stages, and thirteen bands, urArtist network promised an empowering and engaging experience with artists, musicians, media, industry folk and fans and we delivered.

Doors opened at 7PM and despite the rainy weather the turnout was great! Merch tables were stalked as bands quickly claimed their spots along the left side of the main room which presented Crush Luther, Julie C, Isle of Thieves, Organ Thieves, AM Glory, Tailor Made Fable, A Friend in London, and Nordgarden.

Dave Brownsound from Organ Thieves, but best known as the ex-lead guitarist of Sum 41 was about 20 minutes late for his set, in which the band started without him, but everyone remained in good spirits as he ran on to the stage to join his band mates and continued to rock. The show did go on!

The acoustic room staged Billy The Kid, Peter Katz, Andrew Cole, Maddy Rodriguez, Jay Sparrow, Tailor Made Fable, A Friend in London (yes they played twice), and AM Glory.  This was a great intimate space that brought people closer together in an atmosphere that was warm and full of true talent. The evening seriously was about the music and anyone can truly feel the love and support for these artists.

urArtist network would also like to thank all of our sponsors and partners including Killthe8, AUX, ArtistData, Musicmetric, Marcato Digital, Mobile Roadie, Metalworks, DEQQ and truly most importantly a special thanks goes out to all the fans, volunteers, media, and anyone who came out or even retweeted our messages, or shared our content.

New Cities Garner 2010 Juno Nod for New Group of the Year

Blending the timeless tastiness of classic synth-pop to the intensity and dynamics of modern punk and the irrefutable rump mobilization of the recent dance-rock insurgence, The New Cities have brought their own form of urban renewal to the Canadian pop-music scene and beyond with their album Lost in City Lights.

The core of the New Cities hail from Trois-Rivières and Montreal QC. After The New Cities released an eponymous EP, produced by Steve Nadeau of Vénus 3 fame, a friend brokered contact with Greig Nori—the onetime frontman of Treble Charger who has since made his mark producing Sum 41 and Hedley. Their first single “Dead End Countdown,” was a smash hit and paved the way for their second single “Leaders of the Mislead” to do just as well. The band spent the fall touring across Canada and the U.K. and had their song “Lost in City Lights” in an episode of Gossip Girl.
